Happy Fat Tuesday! Or, if you're Polish like me, Happy Pączki Day!

BloggerImage

Yesterday I went to my favorite Polish deli (Celina's in Lemont!) and picked up two dozen Pączkis. I dropped some off at my parent's house (my dad was thrilled!) before taking the rest home. I split the remainder, taking the other half to the Donelson's house tonight when Mike and I went to visit! Laura was super excited to try one (she had never tasted a Pączki before) and was even more happy to see that I had also brought her some kolaches! She always tells me whenever I go to family parties on my dad's side that I have to bring her some back, so I made sure to bring her a box full this time. :)

It was a very lovely night with Mike's family. We had a bunch of fun playing with Peter for a long while. Man, is he getting big! I still marvel every time I see him. He's a walking and talking little man now. :) I love that he always seems to greet me with big hugs. He also loves to "impress" me by doing silly things or showing me how much he knows. He loves when I chase him. He especially loves stealing any bracelets or watches I come over wearing. *sigh* I love that little guy. ❤

February 27th, 2017

Sometimes I absolutely adore working at a hospital in an Ob/Gyne office. I love the patients. I love seeing all the happy mommy's-to-be. I love all my co-workers. I love seeing all the cute little babies. I love sitting in on ultrasounds and seeing the little miracles up close. I just love so much about my job!

But then there are days like today. Days where they make me go down to the ER to drop something off...and I have to walk through wound care and the burn ward to get there. Days where I have to go downstairs to the basement and sort through literally hundreds of patient files to find that one folder we need. Days where our usually peppy mommy's are very grumpy and hormonal. Days like today...when someone actually dies right outside our office.

To clarify... Mondays are our short days - we all leave the office at about 3PM. Our patients were done for the day around 1PM, so after that we went about our usual tasks and routines. Around 230PM or so, one of our nurses walked outside the office to go put blood tests into the pick up lockbox out front. Suddenly she came rushing back in, white-faced, and announced, "There's a dead man outside!" Now most of thought she was just being silly or over exaggerating. But sure enough when we peeked out the door there was a little old man sitting in one of the lobby waiting chairs, slumped over dead.

We were all aghast. When did this happen?? And how?? There was a doctor from one of the other offices checking the old man. After a bit of examination he declared what we already knew: the little man was dead. And even worse? The man had rigor mortis. That means that his limbs had started to stiffen, making them very difficult to move out of their locked positions. Rigor mortis only happens at least two hours after someone dies. I was mortified. Seriously. That man had been sitting there dead for over two hours. Why hadn't anyone done anything?! Why hadn't anyone said something?! The man looked dead - there was no mistaking it. He also was wearing pajamas and no shoes. Clearly he looked lost and out of place! And yet not one person spoke up until now.

Eventually security and the paramedics showed up and took over. It was so sad. I was definitely pretty shook up when it was time to head home. It's days like these that I find myself asking, "Why do I work here?" I hate blood. I don't do well in hospitals. And yet...I work in one??? Sometimes it seems to silly to mention to people that I actually get really grossed out by hospitals, lol. But. Despite the bad days, despite crazy things like this, despite the whole hospital thing in general...I really do love it. Like I said, I love the patients. My co-workers. The mommys and babies. I love everything about my office. So I have to put up with these fleeting crazy moments. Because truly, it is all worth it in the end. :)

February 25th, 2017

Today Mike and I went out with Charlotte to Chilli's for lunch. We hadn't seen her since before our trip, so we wanted to get together to catch up on things. As usual, it was a lovely time. :) After lunch, we headed back to the Donelson's to see if anyone else from the family was home. At first it was only Laura, but then Mike (Sr.) and Chris showed up with Peter! That little cutie grinned all me all big when he saw me and cried out excitedly before running in to say hi. I was super excited to see him (of course), but even more-so today because Michael and I had gotten him something special while we were in Disney! I went out to my car and got him his gifts.

Grandma June had given him a cute little stuffed rabbit that came with a book. He had fun bopping the rabbit over and flipping through the pages. :) But Michael and I got him the best present of all: a Buzz Lightyear hoodie! As I'm sure most of you know, Peter is obsessed with Toy Story. Especially Buzz. He lit up instantly when he saw it and yelled, "Buzz!" However... he wouldn't put it on. :( He was all crabby because he was due for his afternoon nap, so he was been a bit fussy. Oh well. Hopefully he'll put it on real soon!

Apartment Update: Our other chairs came today! Now we have a full set of four around our dining table. They look so great together! I love that we went with a counter-height table.

BloggerImage

So I'd say our place is about 92% finished. The kitchen and bathroom are completely together. The living room has one or two things in the corner that still need to find a home. The bedroom dresser is a bit cluttered with nicknacks, and there is still a pile in the one corner that needs to be sorted through. We are so close to being done and I love it already! Everything looks so wonderful and our place just has such a lovely, homey feel to it. :)

I know this isn't the best "photo of the day", but I'm a little amazed by it so you all just have to deal, lol. I discovered this on my right ankle today...and I have no idea how it got there! I don't remember getting it, I don't remember it hurting, and I have no clue how it could've cut in such an odd, distinct shape like that! Completely baffles me. Maybe I was probed by aliens in my sleep and they like inserted a chip or something in my leg. 😂

February 19th, 2017

We spent our first night in the apartment last night! We started the day off making breakfast in our new kitchen! Mike made me some delicious scrambled eggs! After we got ready for the day, we got right back to work. Mike built our entertainment center and mounted the TV...it looks so good! I am seriously loving getting the place together!

We also bought our kitchen table! Plus two chairs (only one pictured lol)! We assembled the bed and Mike also built the new dresser. Oh! And the floor is finally (mostly) clear and walkable! :D

Disney Vacation: Day 2 (Magic Kingdom)

Today we woke up bright and early. We were both super excited, to say the least. We had a quick breakfast before hurrying to the car and making the drive to the park. We got through bagcheck rather quickly, which I was surprised at. We then headed excitedly over to board the ferry that would take us across the lake. The monorail was closed, which Mike was disappointed about, but we still had a great time on the ferry. The slow drive in was beautiful, especially when the castle came into view!

We rushed off the boat as soon as it docked and practically sprinted into the park. We walked up Main Street USA and just found ourselves staring around us in awe. We were finally here!! Mike was absolutely mesmerized by everything. I just absolutely loved seeing the wonder and amazement on his face. We were grinning from ear-to-ear as we walked hand-in-hand together towards Cinderella's Castle. Michael pointed at this and that and just looked at me with pure happiness. He was finally seeing the castle he had seen in pictures and movies so many times...but this time in person! He was hardly able to contain his excitement; I was so happy.

A worker approached us as we stood there taking it all in and gave us some pins to wear during our visit at Disney! We both got pins that said "Happy Ever After" and Michael got a "First Visit" pin. They were so cute! We then took some time to take all the photos of the castle we wanted. After also taking some absolutely adorable photos in our matching shirts (the backs read "Happily Ever After 2015" when we stood side by side and the front had cute little Mickey & Minnie heads!), we decided we should finally move on to a new section.

We headed through the castle straight into Fantasyland. I told Mike to choose a ride and he picked Prince Charming's Regal Carousel as our first ride of the day! I was so proud. :) After that, I noticed that the line to see Rapunzel was only five minutes, so of course I had to go and grab a photo with her! She gave me a huge hug and was super excited to see that I had found my one true love just like she'd found hers in Flynn. She also told me that she'd love to make me a giant cupcake! We got a photo together and one last hug before saying goodbye.

Next came the Mickey's Phillar Magic 4-D show! I absolutely love that show and I think it is so underrated. It's super cute and definitely one to sing along to! Mike loved it, so I was glad. :) After the show, we continued through Fantasyland. Although Mike protested, we went on It's A Small World next. Although it's song is repetitive and the animatronics are actually kinda creepy at times, it's just one of those classics you can't not ride! We were silly and had fun singing along together throughout the ride.

Soon it was time for me to stand around staring in awe, for we had wandered over to the Tangled section of the park! Rapunzel's tower stood beautifully in the distance, and there was a little Corona village below. It had lanterns and flags everywhere! The women's bathrooms were decorated in Rapunzel murals and Flynn's wanted poster was hanging in the men's. I took a ton of photos. I was in heaven. <3

Our next fast pass was ready soon after, so we headed to Adventureland to ride the Pirates Of The Caribbean ride. This one is such a classic, and definitely a favorite! Mike was amazed at how life-like the Jack Sparrow animatronic was! We decided to grab lunch after that, so we headed back through New Fantasyland to look for a place to eat. We stopped to admire Belle's Castle and get some pictures of Gaston's Tavern. The amount of work they put into making these buildings realistic is just incredible! We decided to eat at the Pinocchio Village Haus, where we got a lovely table up on the balcony to eat. Our food was delicious, there was a lovely breeze, and we had a perfect view of the castle.

After we were full and rested, we decided to head to Frontierland to ride Big Thunder Railroad, since the line was only ten minutes long! We seriously were getting so lucky with our wait times...they were practically nonexistent! The ride was fun, as always. Mike took a video of us riding and it was so funny! Our fast pass was ready for the Haunted Mansion, so we went there next. Mike really appreciated all the decorations and animatronics and just everything that went into making the ride what it was. It was definitely one of his favorites! Next we headed back into Adventureland where we checked out the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse! I had never seen the film, but Mike had and he really appreciated and was amazed by all the details.

I had never been on the Jungle Cruise before (and neither had Mike obviously, lol), so we decided to give it a try! It was old, but so cute. The "guide" on our boat was full of all these lame puns...it was fantastic. The elephant animatronics were so adorable! The whole ride had such a classic Disney feel that I just loved. Definitely another great one! It was getting close to 3PM after we got off, so we decided to go grab a spot along the road to wait for the Festival Of Fantasy Parade to begin! Mike got us some ice cream and popcorn, which we snacked on while we waited. I was super excited to see the parade for I hadn't actually gotten to watch it since I was little. My family (aka my brothers) never usually wanted to sit to watch it.

The floats were just so gorgeous. I just love all the time and effort they put into the costumes and dancing and displays. Rapunzel's float was my favorite, of course. :) I also totally loved the giant Maleficent dragon! It breathed actual fire!! Once the parade ended, we decided to finally head into Tomorrowland. We watched the Monster's Inc Laughfloor first, which is always a great time. Mike is a huge Monsters Inc fan and he just loved it! Mike and I ended up on screen, at the blunt end of a "buy one get one free!" joke (seeing as we both had on matching shirts, lol). Next we went right across the way to ride Buzz Lightyear. Mike totally creamed me, ending up with 61,000 points to my pathetic 35,000. In the gift shop on the way out, I spotted an adorable little Buzz Lightyear hoodie which of course we had to get for our little Toy Story lover (aka Peter!).

Buzz Lightyear himself was outside, so naturally we grabbed a photo with him. We then hopped aboard the Peoplemover, which is one of my absolute favorites in Tomorrowland. It was nice to just kick back and take a load off as we got a little overhead tour of that section of the park. When we got off we saw that Space Mountain only had a five minute wait. Even though we already had fast passes scheduled for later, we decided we had to take advantage of such an awesome wait. (Again, the waits were nearly nonexistent! We were so fortunate!!) Space Mountain is probably my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom, so I was really excited. Mike didn't know what to expect, so he was a little nervous when I forced him to take the front row spot!. But, man... it was much fun! We laughed and screamed and had such a blast. Boy do I love that ride! :)

We were getting a little hungry again, so we decided to go try one of those delicious-looking giant turkey legs we had seen so many people carrying around. As we searched for the stand, I bumped into an old friend from school: Danielle! She and I went to high school together, and then later she was my hairstylist at the salon I went to in town! She had moved out here to become a Disney Cast Member about a year ago and I hadn't seen her since. She was at Magic Kingdom celebrating a year with Disney and it was so great to see her! She was so glad we had bumped into one another. :D

After we said goodbye, we found Eric's Fish Shack where Mike finally got his turkey leg. And lemme just say...yum. :) After we were full, we headed over to Pete's Silly Sideshow to go get pictures with Donald Duck and Goofy! I love taking pictures with all the characters and I was so glad Mike was on board with the idea too!! We got some tasty pastries on the way out as well. :)

Our fast passes were ready for Space Mountain, so we started to head back towards Tomorrowland to ride it again. As we passed through Fantasyland, we stopped at the Tangled section again because all the lanterns were lit up! It was so beautiful! I felt like I was in the movie. <3 The ride, of course, was a blast once again. Mike had me sit in the front this time! It was starting to get dark and hearing time for the Wishes show at Cinderella's Castle, so we decided to start heading up toward Main Street to find a good spot to sit and watch.

We found arguably the most perfect spot and sat down to wait. The Wishes show started at 730PM and it was just so beautiful! They projected scenes from different movies onto the castle and it was just so amazing how it made the castle come to life! Shortly after Wishes came the moment we'd been long since waiting for: the fireworks show! The fireworks in Magic Kingdom are my absolute favorite. The show is just so completely magical and it blows me away every time! Michael adored the show just as much as I did. :)

After the fireworks, we headed up and down Main Street USA just checking out all the shops. Some of my favorite stores were the art shops that had original sketches by actual Disney artists! We took a bunch of more cute photos with the now lit up castle and also grabbed some yummy ice cream and donuts from the always popular Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. After we were sure we had seen all there was to see we headed out. As we rode the tram back towards our car we were nothing but smiles and happy chatter about the day. Everything was just so completely perfect and magical...and that was only day one! I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us. :)

Disney Vacation: Day 1 (Traveling/Visiting June)

Here we are! It’s finally the day! Today we leave for Disney World!!!

It’s safe to say that both Michael and I were super excited this morning…even despite the fact that we had to wake up around 3AM to leave for the airport. Yeah, our flight was at 545AM… But! Nonetheless, we were bouncing with glee even in the wee hours of the morning. Everything went very smoothly when we arrived. We dropped off our larger suitcases before heading to security. Our carry-ons were checked and we got through their in less than fifteen minutes. I haven’t flown in literally like seven years, but thankfully I had Mike with me—he’s flown more times than I can count! We settled down by our gate with some coffee and pastries to wait for our plane.

Once we boarded, we found two seats together. We were sharing our row with a little eight-year-old girl, so we had plenty of room! It was very lucky. :) The flight itself was also great! Despite some bad turbulence in the beginning, we arrived early in Orlando just as the sun came out! We fetched our other luggage before heading down to the rental car place to pick up our vehicle. Unfortunately, things didn’t go super smoothly at first down there. I had booked the car online and also spoken to a representative to make sure the price was final. Yet when we got to the airport, they wanted like one-hundred and fifty more dollars from us! The man we spoke to was super unhelpful and very rude. Eventually we ended up walking away to go see if another company would be able to help.

We were blessed again when we walked up to a different counter and spoke with a lovely lady who happened to be a Chicago native! She not only matched the price I had booked online, she knocked off close to one-hundred dollars for us! It was such a relief and a blessing. Luck was definitely on our side today! :) After the papers were signed, we headed to the garage to fetch our car. We ended up with a cute little red Kia. We loaded up our luggage and headed off.

The weather was so gorgeous. We threw all the windows down and enjoyed the warm, Florida weather the whole drive. We stopped at a Walmart to pick up a few toiletries and some snacks/drinks to keep at the hotel. Our hotel was ready shortly after we finished, so we headed there next to unpack our things and freshen up a little. Our hotel room was so lovely! We were on the third floor, which was the top, so we had no one walking around above us. We also were next to the storage room, so we had no one to our right either! The room was spacious and cozy. There was a nice TV on the wall, a fridge to keep our snacks and drinks in, and a safe to lock up any electronics or money when we went out.

After we were all set, we had one more stop to make. I ordered our Disney tickets through this website (and it gave me an incredible deal—what a discount!) so we had to pick up the actual cards today. We drove a short distance to Orlando, grabbed out tickets, then headed off towards Animal Kingdom’s Kidani Village. That is a hotel that is full of animals on the property. Mike’s step-grandma June was staying there for the night so we could see her! We got a little lost and did a lot of walking, but eventually we made it to the lobby where we finally met June! It was so nice to see her—well, for me, it was the first time I finally got to meet her! We’d been friends on Facebook for a while but this was finally my first visit. :) We headed back to her hotel room, which was gorgeous, and enjoyed the evening chatting and catching up. Her balcony looked out over the mini savannah area, so we three had fun watching the animals.

We got hungry, so we decided to grab some dinner. June suggested a place at Disney Springs, so we decided to head there for food. The restaurant was called the House Of Blues and it was just so cute. It really felt like an old blues house—from the music to the art on the walls to the lighting to just the entire atmosphere. I got a Philly cheese steak sandwich that was to die for. Again, the time spent together was so nice. We laughed and chatted and enjoyed our food for a long while. Once everyone was stuffed, we walked around Disney Springs for a little bit. We checked out some shops and June told us about the area. Then we headed back to the Kidani Village to hang out for a while longer.

June showed us how to play one of her favorite card games…and I discovered I was basically hopeless at it lol. We watched TV and just talked some more. I could tell June really enjoyed the time together and was glad we were able to see her. I definitely had a lovely time with her. She’s such a sweet lady. Eventually it was getting dark and the two of us were definitely tired. We said our goodbyes with promises to come visit her at her home later into the trip. We took the short drive back to the hotel room and basically fell into bed exhausted. All the walking and traveling definitely wore us out! We headed to bed with more excitement stirring inside of us. Tomorrow is the first official day at Disney!!!

Michael set up a few odds and ends at the apartment today - like the cable, Internet, and obviously the TV. Comcast included HBO with our subscription, so we're all set for when Game Of Thrones starts back up again in July. :)

Today was move-in day!! 😁📦🏠

Although we don't officially "move in" until we get back from our Disney trip, we officially got our keys and signed all the final papers today! We couldn't do any of the major moving today (like all the furniture) since we haven't painted the walls yet, but we got so many of the "little things" accomplished today. I can't wait to start decorating our little home together when we return from the happiest place on Earth. 😊💕

February 4th, 2017

So today Mike went to go pick up our cable box for the new apartment from Comcast. The guy told him he could buy the modem/router from Best Buy for cheaper, so he decided to do just that. While he was there, he noticed a 50" TV for an incredibly good deal. He asked a worker what the catch was. I mean, for something that cheap it must've had a problem. However, the guy explained that this TV was an online only product that a customer had never come to pick up, so they put it onto the floor for literally half the price.

BloggerImage

So! We officially have a new TV for our new apartment's living room. :) Our current TV is a 40" and we will be putting that in our bedroom. Mike was super happy about the amazing deal he got. The TV was $200 below the usual price. Plus the guy who helped Mike got him a $50 gift card to use towards the TV! It was all too good to be true!

Mike decided to set the TV up at my family's house to see how it compared to our old TV and wow was it huge! I playfully told him to put it back into the box right away so we wouldn't leave it out until we moved, lol.

Today at work it was super static-y in the building for whatever reason! Sooo my hair was pretty much out of control all day long... The picture on the right is literally the best my hair looked all day (so of course I had to snap a selfie ;)). But yeah pretty much my entire shift I walked around looking like the photo on the right, lol.

My father's jobs comes with a lot of perks. One of which being that he gets to star in movies and TV shows sometimes!!! A few years back, my dad and a few guys from his team played SWAT extras in the third Transformers movie. Yes, my dad was in Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon and met Michael Bay! Today, an episode of the TV series Chicago Med aired...and guess who stared as another SWAT extra in said episode?? :) You guessed it! Here's some shots of my dad from the show! :D

And we started another puzzle! This one is another Thomas Kinkade (but of course...they are my favorite!). It's Aladdin, as you can see. :)
