February 25th, 2019

Tonight in class I read the story of David and Goliath, with they all loved! To emphasize how big Goliath was, I taped a bunch of piece of paper together and stood them up against the wall. The kids could not believe how huge he was! They had fun comparing their sizes to it, and they definitely seemed to enjoy the fact that David was similar in size to them.

Later, we also read the Parable of the Sower. The kids had to draw pictures of what happened to each of the four types of seeds! We ended class by making a Lent prayers book. In it they listed an item/thing they wanted to give up, a bad habit they wanted to give up, and a good habit to take up. They all came up with so many great ideas! I am amazed so often by the grace, selflessness, and purity of these wonderful kids.

February 23rd, 2019

We were having so much fun yesterday playing Secret Hitler and the Switch that we totally forgot to do cake! We came over again today for part 2 of Mitch's birthday celebrations...and we remembered to have cake this time, lol.

February 22nd, 2019

Last year was so incredibly hectic with all things wedding and buying a house that I totally neglected to send Ang cookies for BOTH Spring & Winter Thanksgiving. 😥 I decided to surprise her this spring with TWO orders (to make up for the one I missed last year)...so of course that overly generous ma’am just HAD to send me a "belated 2018 Winter Thanksgiving" bundle as well. 😓😑😒 JUST LET ME SPOIL YOU FOR ONCE SHEESH. (Side note: This box is so humongous, wow; I am totally going to destroy these cookies. 😋) Anywayyyys, all joking aside I’m honestly so thankful to have the most selfless and loving best friend on this planet--I truly don’t deserve her or her infinite kindness. I love you so much Angie, THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME FAT WITH ALL THE POUNDS OF COOKIES YOU KEEP SENDING ME. 🍪💙💜

Today is also my brother Mitch's 19th birthday! After munching on some yummy cookies, Mike and I headed to my family's house with the penguin cake we made him to celebrate! If you're wondering what the orange bit is on the penguin's head...this is a macaroni penguin cake, which is specifically Mitch's favorite type of penguin.

(I helped with the awesome decorations, obviously.)

Tonight Mike spent about three hours making our brand new dining room table! It’s made completely from scratch—blueprint designed 100% by my incredible husband. I’m completely obsessed with it already and it’s not even finished yet! 😍 It seats eight comfortably, or could also even seat ten if needed be (for a party, etc). Once the table acclimates, we’ll be sanding and staining it. I’m also going to be repainting all the chairs as well. Just another reason why my husband is the absolute greatest...there’s nothing that man can’t do! 🥰

February 17th, 2019 *

Something I'm striving for more in 2019 is to be more transparent and open. Not that I want my life to be on display like a fishbowl—I just want think it's healthier to express my thoughts and feelings (when appropriate) instead of harboring everything up inside. I'm thankful for a great support system in my life: a loving and understanding husband, wonderful family, and fantastic friends. I am so blessed to have so many people willing to listen when I need an ear to vent to, or am looking for some advice about my worries. However, sometimes it's just as nice to get all your thoughts out on a piece of paper...or, in this case, a digital white box.

But, as I've mentioned in a previous post, I don't ever want this blog to become a "digital diary". I don't want this wonderfully beautiful collection of memories and stories to turn into a place full of negativity. Obviously, we all have days where grief overtakes us, or our blood boils so hot we're sure we must be red in the face. And to push away those parts of me would not be true to me, who I am, and what makes up my life. So, lengthy text posts about such subject are not to be made unwelcome here—but they are also not to become the underlying subject of this place. I firmly stand by my claim that I do not want this blog to ever just become an outlet for my emotions. I want it to represent my life as a whole.

So, all that (probably confusing) stuff being said, I now what to come forward and talk about something that's been burdening for, well, quite some time now. And, again, this is not a secret I don't want told. This isn't meant to be a diary post. This is simply a part of me, at least for this moment in my life, that I think should be told. Whether one person reads this, or a thousand, or no one other than myself. The audience matters little. The fact that I'm being open about who I am and "documenting" myself at this point in time is what does.

So let's just jump right into the heart of it, shall we? Baby fever—I have got it bad. I've had it for what feels like forever now if I'm being honest, but now that I'm married and have a house...well, the baby fever is getting incredibly harder to contain, lol. I love kids. No, seriously, I adore them. I am the oldest of four so I have literally always had babies in my life. I absolutely loved helping my mom take care of my younger siblings. From helping feed them their bottle to carrying them to pushing the stroller...I wanted to be involved in the entire process. As I got older, I could not wait until the day that my parents deemed me old enough to watch the kids by myself. Later on in high school, I jumped at every opportunity to babysit for family or friends. I babysat constantly for all kinds of families, as well as had three families in particular whom (at various different times) I was a regular sitter for on a weekly basis. I even took a few different child development electives (by choice!).

When I started working, I also eventually found myself working with kids. I ended up working in an Ob/Gyne office for three years—and wow did I love every minute of it. Getting to be around babies and pregnant ladies all day long was honestly so much fun. It was so special getting to see the same women week after week all the way up until they gave birth...and then they would come back for a check up and I would finally get to see the little ones! I was practically just as invested in some of these pregnancies as the family members probably were!

Although I said goodbye to my old job at the doctor's office, I do still work with children. Once a week I teach religious education to a group of third graders! (to be continued...)

Happy Valentine's Day!! ❤️

This morning I woke up to a beautiful bouquet of flowers and the world’s sweetest card from my husband. ♥️

In the afternoon, I got a text from my best friend Angie letting me know that she had gotten her belated 2018 Spring Thanksgiving treats! Just look at the cute box!!

Later, my lovely mother-in-law also dropped off some Vday treats!

In the evening, Mike and I had dinner at Francesca’s and the food was simply to die for. 😋 It was such a completely wonderful day!

Spring Thanksgiving treats arrived today! 🍪🦉💜💙 You’re about a week early, but at least you’re not THREE weeks early like I was. 😂 Our mailing skills are getting better? Kind of?? Anyways, THANK YOU for the delicious cookies—you know I’m such a sucker for Mrs. Fields. 😋 Even though our gross Illinois weather caused the cookies to freeze and I had to microwave them to eat them... 😐 And yes, I already ate all the chocolate chip ones. 💁🏽‍♀️ Ps, this box is so heckin’ cute!!! 😍 Thank you for being SUCH a wonderful best friend and carrying on silly childhood traditions with me for all these years; IT TRULY MEANS SO MUCH! I LOVE YOU ENDLESSLY, ANGIE DARLING! 🥰😘♥️

A New, Fun-Filled Year

So last year, obviously, was a very busy year for Mike & I. With buying a house, graduating, and getting married, we felt like we were constantly running around doing things. The year started off with some avid house hunting, which ended up running over into school. There were days I would literally get up at 5:30AM to drive through crazy, 2-hour long rush hour traffic, spend literally all day at class, then drive straight home to leave immediately with Mike to go meet our realtor and check out some homes. I wouldn't get home until about 9PM...and then I'd promptly pass out, lol.

After we found our dream home, the craziness didn't end. We had to go through the stressful, tedious process of making an offer, signing contracts, getting insurance, getting a loan, etc etc etc. I probably signed and filled out a billion documents. In the end, it was all worth it when we were handed the keys to OUR very own home! It was such a surreal moment, walking into our home on Stonybrook and being able to say, "Hey, I own this place!" Things kicked into high gear after that. Mike and I would spend all day at work or school, then come home and avidly get to work on the house. We remodeled rooms, painted, unpacked...it was quite the process. Most weekends were spent 100% doing things around the house, with some other wedding-planning things squeezed in. We were constantly going to bed late and sleeping like logs...but, at least this "busy" was the good, productive kind. :)

By the time summer rolled around, we were pretty much done with all the major things we wanted to do around the house and everything was unpacked. We hosted several parties/BBQ's at our home and it felt so good to have such a big, beautiful place to entertain our loved ones. All the hard work truly paid off. While summer ended most of the home projects, it kicked off the wedding planning frenzy. Researching vendors, attending tasting, getting engagement photos taken (we wanted to wait until it was warmer so we could take outside photos, and obviously spring was a little too jam-packed for us!). We took a week-long vacation in July, our Bridal BBQ (the bridal shower) was in August, and basically (what felt like) fifty wedding-related packages a day arrived all throughout September and October.

Our wedding was very DIY in many ways. We didn't hire a wedding planner. We printed and assembled all the various invitations (Save The Date, BBQ, wedding, rehearsal dinner), table numbers, and wedding favors (which were also placecards) ourselves. We opted against floral centerpieces we could just buy or order, and instead designed and assembled multi-piece lantern centerpieces ourselves. We spent the week before the wedding making trips to the reception hall to set up (15 guest tables, 5 other various tables, and lights), assembling 24 church bows, and making all the floral pieces (4 bouquets, 3 vased arrangements, 10 boutonnieres, and 8 corsages). We drove over an hour to get to our bakery in upper Chicago. We drove another hour just to pick up our marriage license. I made at least three wedding-related phone calls a day scheduling things, discussing details with vendors, and making sure everything was on track. We honestly did about 85% of everything all by ourselves. It was time-consuming. It was exhausting. But it was all worth it in the end. (PS: If anyone wants to hire me as their wedding planner, I'd like to think I'd be pretty good at it after all of this!)

Then, the wedding arrived and it was beyond perfect. Afterwards we went on the most amazing two week long honeymoon. We came home and things picked back up again for the crazy holiday season. Decorating the house, Christmas shopping, planning/preparing for parties...it was go go go, still! As soon as Christmas was through I remember turning to Mike one night and saying, "I just want to stay home and do absolutely nothing for like a week."

Last year truly was the best year of my life. I bought my very first home and I married my very best friend. So many of our friends and family showered us with love and support all year long, helping with house or wedding things as much as they could. But still, the year was a very full year. No single weekend was spent just sitting around. There were constant appointments and commitments. I didn't expect to have much time to fit in fun trips to concerts, festivals, zoos, theme parks, etc. Surprisingly, we did manage to attend some fun events after all, and I was very thankful for each and every one.

This year, we don't have any "huge, life changing" plans other than adding two little fur balls to our family (though, that won't be until late spring/early summer). So this year I want to make sure that we catch back up on doing some of the fun things we love, like visiting Brookfield Zoo, going downtown, checking out the museums, and so on. I also want to try to plan for one "unique" event each month. By unique I mean out of the normal/usual. Something we haven't done before, or don't usually do. As of tonight, Mike and I scheduled two exciting events for us!

In January, Mike took me to a play at the Drury Lane Theatre. :) We saw Beauty and the Beast and I simply adored it! Tonight, we booked two awesome events in March! On the 2nd, we're going with Charlotte to the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series. It's a monster truck show/rally/thing...I've never been to one so I'm not entirely sure, lol. But it looks super cool! On the 23rd Mike and I are going to C2E2 (aka Chicago's version of Comic Con!). I have never been to a comic con before, but I've always wanted to, so I am very very ecstatic to have tickets! I'd definitely love to dress up as something cool, though I have no ideas as of right now. Also, Paul Rudd is going to be there!! Unfortunately autographs and photo ops already sold out for him, but I'm going to keep my eye out for anyone selling theirs. ;) In May, we also already have tickets for the Water Lantern Festival! We used to attend Lantern Fest every year in Indiana, but they very suddenly shut down. :( I was so happy to have found this new festival to go to instead, and am super excited about the new spin to the festival: the lanterns will be floating in the water instead of being launched into the air! It's so Tangled-esque, I know!! Even better, this festival is only about thirty minutes away from us, as opposed to 3-4 hours!

So, that's my fun plan for this year! I'm really excited to look into more fun events and make all sorts of unique and interesting plans! We already completed January, and we're all set for March and May. I definitely have to get my butt in gear and find something fun for February before it's over, lol. It may not seem like much, but in the grand scheme of things it will really make for a fun year if we stick to it! I really want to make use of this year in terms of just having fun with my wonderful husband. Last year was fun in terms of wonderful life events, and this year is going to be a blast spent having all kinds of adventures! I'm excited to have a schedule full of things I choose to schedule, as opposed to the endless appointments I had to make. I will definitely be sure to blog about it all, as well as to keep ya'll updated with the future events that we shall plan! :)

February 2nd, 2019

Today it was my family's turn to spoil me for my birthday! ;) Started the evening off with cake, which my mom so sweetly baked just for me! They all also got me tons of generous presents.

Ironically, my brother Zack's Christmas gift arrived today for me as well! He had ordered it awhile ago, but unfortunately it didn't make it in time for the holiday. I completely adore it!!

We headed to the Oak Brook mall a bit later for an escape room! We might be addicted to escape rooms, okay? 😜 We destroyed the squid and escaped from "The Submarine" with 1:35 to spare! ⚓️🦑🌊

After our victorious win, we did some browsing around before making our way over to Maggiano's for dinner. The food was absolutely phenomenal, and the moscato I ordered was simply to die for.

Overall, it was such a great night! I am so thankful for my wonderful family! :)

February 1st, 2019

I was surprised in the middle of work today by my amazing Aunt Mary! She stopped by to drop off my birthday present: a precious Mickey and Minnie calendar blocks set! I'm literally already obsessed! I am so lucky to have such a sweet aunt!

Later in the evening I met up with my darling sister-in-law, who not only treated me to birthday dinner at Chili's but also surprised me with thoughtful gifts! ♥️ An adorable t-shirt (which I will definitely abuse wearing once the pups are born), a pretty floral mug to drink my favorite teas out of, and some fun washi tape to use in my new Bible! She so sweetly paid attention to all the details. 🥰 How lucky am I to have such an amazing family?? ❤️💚

January 31st, 2019

Shoutout to my amazing husband for absolutely spoiling me on my birthday today! We started the morning off with a yummy breakfast at Blueberry Hill Cafe. Then we headed over to Oak Brook mall where we did TWO amazing escape rooms!

Despite how totally dumb I look with my upside down sign (😆), we conquered "Jurassic Escape" with 5:45 to spare! 🦖🦕 This honestly was one of the COOLEST escape rooms I’ve ever done--they had actual dinosaur animatronics and all kinds of amazing DNA/laboratory equipment we used to help us escape! My inner dino geek was in heaven. 😍 It was so very in-depth and truly top-of-the-line as far as escape rooms go! Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some amazingly unique rooms! 😊

We escaped from "The Theater" with only 30 seconds to spare! 🎭🎟🎬 This room was just as immersive as the other one, and equally as fun...even if the puppets were pretty creepy. 😬 We also did some shopping in between the two rooms--my favorite stop being at this adorable candy shop called Lolli & Pops.

We got a delicious dinner at the Cheesecake Factory...as well as dessert, of course. 😉

Then we headed to Jared where Mike spoiled me with presents: THREE new charms for my Disney Pandora bracelet!!

Lastly we headed to the movies to see Glass at the D-Box theater by our house before heading home for cake. And, what a cake!! 😍

We just saw Into the Spiderverse a few days ago and I’ve been pretty much obsessed, so naturally I adored my awesome cake!

Feeling so completely thankful for the overly generous man I’ve been blessed with, who always treats me far better than is required. Thank you for a wonderful birthday, my darling. ♥️
